Trend 11 (Polarization)

“ I want it my way!”

Polarization and narrowness will bend toward reasoned discussion, evidence, and consideration of varying points of view

||
With regard to our Trend of Polarization, what should today's educational leaders consider when forecasting and planning for the future of learning in the year 2020?
As educators moving toward 2020, we need to be open-minded and think "out of the box" as we approach the issues that present themselves in the area of education. As leaders we need to model the acceptance and encouragement of all points of view through the support of healthy, appropriate debate. If we want students to be open-minded and "out of the box" thinkers, then we must allow them to have input in their learning, allow them to take risks and recover, and push what is perceived to be "the right or acceptable way". We must afford students the opportunity to experience open-minded thinking by providing them with teachers who model and value a variety of points of view.
